Film Riot
Students will learn about and explore the history and development of special effects in film, from the camera tricks of George Melies at the beginning of the 20th Century up to the CGI effects laden blockbusters of today.
After initial discussions, students will lead this research exploring an artist in more detail. The core of the class will be putting into practice some of these VFX with zero budget, utilizing programs such as Adobe After Effects, an industry standard in Hollywood today. Students will learn skills such as in camera effects such as the stop trick, as well as current post production skills - lighting and shooting green screen, building virtual sets or freezing time.
